1. Hire an independent homebirth midwife when you’re pregnant
2. If you decide to deliver your baby in a hospital, hire a doula
3. Keep in mind that childbirth is a large share of a hospital’s income. Every intervention creates more revenue not more safety.
4. The most common surgery in the US is cesarean section delivery.
5. The World Health Organization recommends that no more than 10-15% of births should be by cesarean section. In the US, the rate is
32.3% according to data form the the March of Dimes.
6. Prenatal ultrasound $200-$300, hospital delivery $3,000-$37,000,
cesarean section $8,000-$71,000. Average non-cesarean birth in the hospital is $32,093.
7. Homebirth with a midwife $1,500-$5,000.
